For our 17th wedding anniversary, we knew we wanted something that would allow us to unwind, reconnect, and celebrate nearly two decades of love. After many wonderful stays with the Excellence brand, we decided to try their newest resort: Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres in Mexico. And let me just say—it did not disappoint.

First Impressions: Modern Elegance Meets Tranquility

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warm hospitality that Excellence is known for. Even though the resort is still in its early days, it already exudes a sense of peaceful luxury. The grounds are lush, the architecture modern and airy, and the overall vibe incredibly relaxing.

One thing that stood out right away was that the resort wasn’t at full capacity—a major plus. It made everything feel even more exclusive and allowed us to fully enjoy every amenity without feeling crowded or rushed.

Food & Drink: A Culinary Delight

The food and beverages were absolutely on point. Whether it was a gourmet dinner under the stars or a casual lunch by the beach, every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The variety of options—both international and regional—kept our taste buds excited the entire trip. With 16 restaurants to choose from there is literally something for everyone. I do recommend checking their app ahead of your trip to have a small game plan since the restaurants are on a rotating schedule and everything is open every day, for every meal.

And the cocktails? Perfection. From handcrafted margaritas to refreshing mocktails, the bartenders clearly know their craft. We especially loved the beach and poolside service provided by Antonio. If you happen to make your way there, ask for him. He is amazing and loves his job! Personal favorites include the mango margarita and the espresso martini. If you choose an Excellence Club level room the Whisper experience is MUST! I can’t give any details, as it’ll spoil the surprise but let me just say it is 45 minutes well spent.

Service: Excellence in Every Detail

We’ve come to expect a high standard of service from the Excellence brand, and Coral Playa Mujeres lived up to that reputation. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and genuinely committed to making our stay memorable. Whether it was a surprise serenade from a mariachi band for our anniversary dinner or extra care poolside, the personalized touches meant the world to us.

Beach & Pools: Plenty of Space to Unwind

The beach was immaculate—soft white sand, clear blue water, and best of all, plenty of beach chairs. We never once had to “reserve” spots early in the morning or deal with overcrowding. The same goes for the pools: peaceful, clean, and lined with plenty of loungers and shady spots. The main pool had great entertainment activities during the afternoon and the Excellence pool areas provided more peaceful surroundings. Our favorite spot was the X-Lounge that featured an infinity edge skypool overlooking the resort and beach area. It also has lots of comfy loungers, huge umbrellas along with a bar and poolside service. This area also has private cabanas that can be reserved for an additional fee.

The Newness Factor: A Few Imperfections, But No Dealbreakers

Since the resort is still quite new, there were a few minor construction imperfections—nothing major, just some finishing touches that were still being addressed. To their credit, the staff was actively working on these improvements, which reassured us that they’re committed to refining the guest experience. Never once though did this bother us or hinder us during our stay.

Final Thoughts: The Perfect Anniversary Escape

All in all, our stay at Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres was everything we hoped it would be—romantic, restful, and filled with beautiful memories. The combination of great food, stellar service, and the serene atmosphere made it a perfect place to celebrate 17 years of marriage.
